Description

Description
The Jaguar S-Type was a major redevelopment of the Jaguar Mk.II. It used a mid-scale version of the Mk. X independent rearsuspension to replace the Mk. II's live rear axle and featuredlonger rear bodywork among other styling and interior changes.Although the Mk. X was selling less well than hoped, especially inits intended market of the USA, Sir William decided to retain allthree models in the Jaguar range concurrently. The Mk. X wasrenamed '420G' in 1966 and was joined by another new model, the4.2-litre 420. The 420 was developed to replace the S-Type butbecause some demand remained for the S-Type, all four saloon models(Mk. II, S-Type, 420 and 420G) remained on sale until the arrivalof the Jaguar XJ6 in 1968.Presented very much as a restoration project but totallycomplete, this 420 has a number of issues to report. Both wingsshow corrosion as do the sills, door bottoms and all wheel arches. The chromework is sound but does show light pitting and rust. Thereare five wire wheels present although the spare is flat. Internallythe wood is all present but requires restoring and the leatherseating, whilst not torn, is stiff and dirty. The condition of theengine and automatic gearbox is unknown and untested. An inspectionis recommended prior to bidding but there is certainly lots ofpotential here. Comes with Spares
